Salukis Shutout Racers On Senior Day

Carbondale, Ill. - Tori Schullian, Kerrigan Gamm, and Aubree DePron were all recognized on Saturday for Southern Illinois' 2023 Senior Day at Charlotte West Stadium as the Salukis picked up a shutout win behind a one-hit complete game from Madi Eberle.
The Salukis tallied four hits and just one walk off the Racers' Jenna Veber who came into the contest with a 1.99 ERA in over 130 innings pitched. Rylie Hamilton hit her third triple of the season in the second inning with two outs to give SIU some momentum early. In the very next at-bat, Aubree DePron hit a hard one-hopper right back up the middle that bounced off the pitcher's glove to the shortstop but the throw was not in time as DePron drove in what would end up being the game-winning run.
The Salukis relied on Eberle and their defense for much of the remaining five innings as the Salukis recorded no errors on the day. Through seven innings pitched, Eberle struck out three batters while only allowing three walks and the one hit.
The Salukis two other hits came from Emma Austin who is now 3-for-6 in the series along with senior Kerrigan Gamm who singled to left field in the fifth inning with one-out. Gamm's now batting .316 on the year with four RBIs, seven runs, and a double.
After giving up a one-out walk in the seventh, Eberle went on to retire the next two batters including a difficult play from Aubree DePron who crashed into the center field wall to make the final out.
The Salukis and Racers will conclude the series Sunday, April 30 at noon from Charlotte West Stadium for Southern's final home game of the regular season.
