Southern Illinois puts together strong showing at Bill Cornell Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University track and field team hosted its first Bill Cornell Invitational since 2021 this weekend at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
The Salukis competed against Lindenwood University, Western Illinois University, and the University of Southern Indiana at the meet, and finished first on both the men and women's side.Â
The men's team tallied a winning score of 217 on the weekend, while the women's team led the way with a score of 227.Â
Cole Targgart and Matisen Ingle started off the meet with two first-place finishes in the discus, with Daniel Norris and Christine Nosike also finishing second in the event.Â
Southern Illinois posted numerous winners on the second day, including Travis Hart in the men's 3000m steeplechase, Rachel Anderson in the women's 1500m run, and Dawson Plab in the men's high jump.

"It was great to see the community come out and show love and support to Saluki nation," said Richard Jones, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. "We recognized our seniors and we had some great performances. These results set us up for a good part of our season in the next few weeks."
What's Next
Southern Illinois will next travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State from April 13-15. Â
