
Salukis Host SIUE for Bark in the Park Tuesday

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois baseball will play its final midweek game of the season Tuesday night at Itchy Jones Stadium as Southern Illinois-Edwardsville comes to town. It's Bark in the Park as fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

AROUND THE HORN
• Southern Illinois will look to continue to build off a weekend series win over Valparaiso on Tuesday as Southern Illinois-Edwardsville makes the trek to Carbondale for a midweek game.
• Southern Illinois continues to lead the nation in double plays with 53 turned over 48 games. SIU's 1.10 double plays turned per game are also tops in the country. SIU has turned 18 double plays in MVC play.
• The Salukis are 13-3 in games when they hit two or more home runs -- SIU had six homers during the Valpo series and three during a midweek game against USI last week.
• SIU has already hit the fifth-most home runs in a single season with 68 in 48 games, averaging 1.42 home runs per game. Southern has broken the single-season home run record in each of the last two seasons (88 in 2022 & 84 in 2021).
• SIU is 17-0 in games when leading after eight innings and 15-1 when leading after seven innings.
• The top two spots in the MVC in toughest to strikeout belong to SIU's Steven Loden and Nathan Bandy. Loden strikes out once every 10.3 at bats while Bandy strikes out once every 9.4 at bats. Loden's mark is 47th best among all batters in the country.
• SIU is 61-of-74 on stolen bases which leads the MVC. Boucher leads SIU with 14 stolen bases while Vallee and Bandy have 13 and 10 respectively.
THE SERIES & MATCHUP
• Southern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville have met 38 times previously with the Salukis leading the series 29-9. SIU has dominated the series over the last decade, winning nine-straight games over Edwardsville, including four in 2022 before the Cougars snapped the streak earlier this season with a 5-4 win in Edwardsville in early March. Southern is 19-2 against SIUE at home all time.
• SIUE enters the game at 24-22 overall and is coming off a weekend series loss to Tennessee Tech where the Cougars dropped all three games. SIUE is hitting .275 as a club led by Brennan Orf with a .348 average and 18 home runs. Brady Bunten (.325) and Braedyn Brewer (.315) also hit above .300 for the Cougars.
• On the mound, SIUE holds a 6.45 ERA and has struck out 356 batters as a staff. Spencer Stearns holds a 2.16 ERA in six appearances to lead the team. Tyler Delong is 5-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 60 innings of work.

ROG EARNS MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
• Rog's bat came to life for the Salukis over the last week as he led the team with a .500 average, a 1.000 slugging percentage, and a .550 on-base percentage. The senior belted a pair of home runs, had three doubles, and scored seven runs as Southern finished the week 3-1, including a series win on the road at Valparaiso. Rog recorded multiple hits in three games, including a trio of three-hit games. Rog collected 18 total bases to lead the squad and drove in four runs for SIU.
THE BIG FLY
• Steven Loden and Pier-Olivier Boucher each continue to move up the SIU single-season home run list after a solid weekend on the road at Valpo. Loden hit two home runs against the Beacons, bringing his season total to 15 on the season which ranks tied for fourth-best in a single season. Boucher also tallied a pair of home runs to move to 14 on the season which is tied for sixth best.
