EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - McKensey Bunch's second goal of the season led to Southern Illinois University's women's soccer team (1-2-2) drawing against SIUE on Thursday night.
"Delighted to get a point on the road," head coach Graeme Orr said. "SIUE have had some great results recently and are experienced conference champions. We were brave on the ball and showed good mobility, so a lot of positives."
The best chance for the Salukis in the first half came in the 40th minute, when graduate student Kaitlin DuCharme put a shot towards goal, which was saved by Cougars' goalkeeper Taylor Spiller.Â
Five minutes later, SIUE scored in the final minute of the opening half after Ashlyn Nichols found the back-of-the-net, leading to a 1-0 Cougars lead entering the halftime break.
It took the Salukis around 11 minutes into the second half to find an answer, which came from a DuCharme free kick from midfield. The graduate student sent the ball into the middle of the penalty area, where Bunch got a head to it and beat Spiller. The goal was Bunch's second of the year, and the assist was DuCharme's first.

Both Bunch and Emma Spotak tallied two shots each in the draw.
Next up for the Salukis, who are now 1-2-2, is a road trip to St. Charles, Mo., to take on Lindenwood on Sunday at 1 p.m.
