Women's Soccer Continues Road Trip on Sunday at Lindenwood

CARBONDALE, Ill. - After posting a 1-1 draw on Thursday at SIUE, the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-2-2) will visit Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., on Sunday at 1 p.m.

- In their last game, the Salukis drew at SIUE, 1-1. McKensey Bunch scored the game-tying goal in the second half off of a Kaitlin DuCharme assist and free kick.
- Chantelle Symes had a career-high nine saves in the draw on Thursday night. In the goalkeeper's first three appearances of the season, Symes has made 16 saves and allowed four goals, posting a 1.33 goals against average (GAA) and .800 save percentage.
- The Salukis have scored four goals on the season so far, with DuCharme and Bunch both scoring two each.Â
- DuCharme now has six goals and five assists in her Saluki career. The graduate student is third all-time in goals at SIU, trailing only Liz Brechtel (10) and Emma Spotak (nine). DuCharme's five assists are the most in program history.
- Along with DuCharme, freshman Ava Pugliese also has an assist on the year. Pugliese assisted Bunch's first goal of the campaign in SIU's 2-1 win over Jackson State in the season-opener.
- Bunch and Spotak have paced Southern Illinois in shots, with both tallying seven shots each.
- Ary Lougher has made two appearances in-goal for SIU, making 15 saves and allowing three goals while posting a 1.50 GAA and .833 save percentage.
- Defenders Riley Maulick and Kylie McDermott have played all 450 minutes through the team's first five games.
- Graeme Orr is in his first season as head coach of the women's soccer program. Assistant coaches Carley Kandel and Ash Phillips are also in their first year with the Salukis, while Jake Edwards returns for his second season as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff.
- Orr comes to SIU after spending the previous 12 seasons as the head coach at Division II West Alabama. He was announced as the Salukis' head coach on May 30, 2023.Â
- The Eaglesham, Scotland native, was the first head coach in West Alabama women's soccer history, starting the program in 2011. During his 12 years with the program, Orr posted an overall record of 115-78-19 and conference record of 79-44-9.
- UWA recorded 10-consecutive and had 11-straight postseason appearances under Orr.Â
- Orr was previously an assistant coach at North Alabama before arriving at West Alabama.Â
- The Lions are 2-2 through their first four matches of the season.
- After starting 0-2, Lindenwood has beaten Chicago State and Murray State in its' last two games. The 1-0 win against the Racers was Lindenwood's first clean sheet of the season.
- Anna Johnson scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to secure Lindenwood's second win of the year. Goalkeeper Erika Anstine made four saves in the win.
- The Lions are in their second season at the Division I level and in the Ohio Valley Conference. The program made the move in the spring of 2022.Â
- On the season, Lindenwood has scored six goals and also allowed six on the defensive end.Â
- Johnson is tied with Mia Corrigan for the team-lead in goals, as both have scored two on the year.Â
- Anstine has started all four matches in-goal, making 12 saves and allowing six goals during that span.
- Dave Musso is Lindenwood's head coach, and is in his sixth season in the role.Â
- This is only the second meeting all-time between the two programs.
- In their first-ever meeting, the Lions defeated the Salukis, 2-0, on Aug. 18, 2022.Â
