
Recap | Salukis Comeback Effort Falls Short Against Indiana State

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's women's basketball team (6-10, 1-5 MVC), which trailed at one point by 22 points, came up short on Friday night, falling by a final score of 64-63 to Indiana State.
"I believe motivation wears off, but discipline remains," head coach Kelly Bond-White said. "We didn't have both in that first half."
At the end of the opening quarter, Indiana State led by a score of 23-11. The Sycamores shot 53.3% from the field, while Southern posted a field-goal percentage of 23.8% on 5-of-21 shooting.
Southern Illinois once again scored 11 points in the second quarter and allowed 15 on the other end. Indiana State's field-goal percentage dropped to 36.8% in the period, but SIU struggled as well, going 4-of-15 (26.7%). Entering the halftime break, the Sycamores led, 38-22.
The Salukis out-scored Indiana State, 20-17, in the third and then, 21-9, in the fourth, but ultimately fell short, 64-63.
Laniah Randle posted her sixth double-double of the season in the loss, scoring 22 points and posting 15 rebounds on the night. Jaidynn Mason tied a career-high with seven steals on the defensive end.
As a team, Southern shot 30.7% from the field and 15.4% from deep on Friday.
SIU, now 6-10 overall and 1-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will stay at home on Sunday to host Evansville at 2 p.m. at the Banterra Center.
