CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's basketball team (7-10, 2-5 MVC), soared past Evansville, 99-60, on Sunday at the Banterra Center.
"I was so proud of them," head coach Kelly Bond-White said. "They weren't thinking about themselves. They were thinking about a collective and sharing the ball."
SIU got off to a strong start, out-scoring Evansville, 22-10, in the first quarter. Southern held the Purple Aces to 3-of-11 shooting from the field in the opening 10 minutes.
Southern Illinois stayed rolling in the second quarter, scoring 27 points while the Aces posted 14. One half in, and the Salukis had a dominant 49-24 lead.
As a team, SIU shot 68.75% from the field in the second quarter.
Paige Clubb drilled one of her four three-pointers in the third, where SIU out-scored Evansville, 28-18. Clubb had a career-high 18 points in the win.
In the final quarter, the Salukis once again paced the Aces, 22-18, to win by a final score of 99-60. Southern posted a field-goal percentage of 52.8% and also were 9-of-20 from deep.
Laniah Randle posted her seventh double-double of the season in the win, tallying 23 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks and four steals. Jaidynn Mason (14), Seairra Hughes (12), and Quierra Love (11) all scored in double-figures for the Salukis along with Randle and Clubb.
The 99 points are the most SIU has scored since scoring 105 points against Evansville last season on Feb. 25, 2023.
SIU, now 7-10 overall and 2-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will travel to Murray State for its next game on Friday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m.
