Recap | Salukis wrap up the 2024 season at the Midwest Regional Championship
11/15/2024 | 4:49:00 | Cross Country
PEORIA, Ill. -Â Southern Illinois 2024 Cross Country season came to a close at the Midwest Regional championship on Friday, Nov. 15., in Peoria, Ill. The women's team finished 32nd in the 6K. The men's team finished 29th in the 10K.
Head Coach Angelina Ramos gave her thoughts on the regional championship and her first season as the Salukis head coach.
"Our SIU men and women competitors sincerely appreciated the love they felt from Saluki alumni, Saluki parents, and Saluki friends, family, and former high school coaches supporting them through the race (with special thanks to alumni like David B, Bob S, and more)." Ramos said, "I firmly believe we have some of the best alumni in the NCAA. No one with competitive aspirations is complacent with finishing 32nd on both sides and that certainly wasn't the season finish we wanted to showcase for our alumni, however, part of trust and growth is acknowledging where a program is before it can be built forward for the future. Our athletes gave their best efforts today and this is where we are as a program before we can take that next jump forward."
Full race results can be seen below to see where each of the Saluki runners placed at the Midwest Regional.

Coach Ramos gave her thoughts on the program and what the future holds
"Admittedly, we are thin in numbers as a group from a depth perspective. That falls on my shoulders to recruit well and to keep this group healthy, to deliver the performance that will give our alumni a show to behold."
Ramos continued "Today was hard, and my heart and stomach hurt seeing the scoreboard, but today's punch to the gut was also necessary. My athletes work harder than this and will be able to see this work come full circle. This group embodies a growth mindset, and we have our hearts set on accomplishing tall goals on the track." Ramos said, "The men return four next year and the women return six. We have our sights set on using today as a catalyst for a brighter future, built on a foundation of healthy consistency, stacking bricks upon bricks of success each season. I'm proud to coach the Salukis every day and look forward to the indoor and outdoor track season with them".
