CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois basketball ran past North Dakota State, 69-44, Monday night at Banterra Center to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Salukis held the Bison to 26.5 percent from the field in the game and just 5-for-27 from behind the arc.
For the Salukis, it was a complete game on the defensive side of the ball. SIU held the Bison to just 23 first-half points on 10-for-27 shooting before improving on that in the second half with just 21 NDSU points on 8-for-31 shooting.
"I'm obviously very pleased with our defensive effort," head coach Scott Nagy said after the game. "Even though they were down one of their better players, our players did a good job executing the defensive game plan."
Nagy continued: "We want to move the ball and throw it in the post offensively. I thought we did a great job offensively taking just eight threes and being able to just throw it in (the post) and shoot 51 percent, but the defense is what I am most pleased with."
Ali Dibba paced the Salukis offensively with a game-high 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Kennard Davis Jr. and Jarrett Hensley added nine points for the Dawgs while Elijah Elliott scored eight points to go with four rebounds and two assists.
