CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (2-5) will be heading to Edwardsville, Ill., on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to face the Cougars of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).

- The Salukis are coming off of a 87-54 road loss at North Texas on Saturday, Dec. 7.
- Southern Illinois was out-scored, 24-6, in the fourth quarter by the Mean Green. Both Se'Quoia Allmond, 15, and Isabella Palmqvist, 10, scored in double-figures last Saturday.
- On Dec. 7, SIU had 22 turnovers. This was the fourth time this season Southern has had at least 20 turnovers in a game. Southern Illinois is 0-4 in those games.Â
- SIU is 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring offense, averaging 59.6 points-per-game. Defensively, Southern is allowing 69.9 points-per-game, which ranks seventh in the Valley. Â
- The Salukis are eighth in the MVC in rebounding (36.0). In terms of offensive rebounding, SIU is second at 13.1.Â
- The Salukis are in the top half of the MVC in blocks (sixth, 3.3) and are seventh steals (8.3).Â
- In the MVC Preseason Poll, Southern was picked to finish 10th out of 12 teams. SIU received a total of 167 points in the poll. Drake was voted to finish first with 566 points and 39 first-place votes.
- Southern Illinois is now 11th in the Valley standings and are one of three teams with two wins.Â
- Murray State sits atop of the league at 5-2, followed by Bradley and Missouri State who are both 5-3.
- Kelly Bond-White is in her third season in Carbondale and has a record of 25-44. The lone new faces on the coaching staff are Greg Brown (assistant coach) and Peyton Thevenot (graduate assistant).Â
LEADING THE SALUKIS
- Gift Uchenna is averaging a team-high 14.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks-per-game to begin the season. Uchenna is the only player in the MVC to be averaging a double-double, and ranks 11th in scoring, first in rebounding, and third in blocks. The junior is 16th in the country in rebounding, fifth in offensive rebounding (5.1), and is tied for 25th in blocks-per-game.Â
- Isabella Palmqvist is second on the Salukis with 8.3 points-per-game and has a three-point percentage of .379, which ranks 11th in the MVC. Palmqvist's 11 three-pointers made are tied for 18th in the conference, and the freshman has made a shot from deep in six-straight games.Â
- Since coming off of the bench vs. Louisiana Monroe, Kayla Cooper has started four-straight games and has played at least 29 minutes in three consecutive appearances. Cooper has averaged 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals-per-game across her last two outings.
- Tyranny Brown's 8.1 points-per-game are the third-most on the team, while her .800 free throw percentage ranks second on the SIU roster. Brown has scored in double-figures in three games, including a season-high 14 points vs. Louisiana Monroe on Nov. 13.Â
- Tkiyah Nelson is tied for eighth in the Valley in steals-per-game (1.9). Against North Texas, however, Nelson was held without a steal for the first time this season. The sophomore guard has had multiple steals in four games.Â
- Se'Quoia Allmond made her fourth appearance of the season at UNT and led the team with 15 points. Allmond also went 4-of-5 from deep, her strongest mark as a Saluki. The 15 points are a new career-high. Allmond has scored double-digit points in back-to-back outings.Â
LOOKING AT SIUE
- Entering Sunday's game against the Salukis, SIUE has a record of 1-7 and have lost four-straight games. The Cougars' lone win came at home on Nov. 19 vs. Roosevelt University (won 73-44).
- SIUE lost, 87-74, in its last game at Evansville on Dec. 8. This was the final game of a four game road trip that lasted from Nov. 22 to Dec. 8 and included trips to Central Florida, DePaul, and Middle Tennessee.
- The Cougars have allowed over 80 points in back-to-back games and in four games total.
- Brianna Wooldridge leads SIUE in scoring, averaging 10.4 points-per-game.Â
SERIES HISTORY
- Southern Illinois holds a record of 5-3 all-time against SIUE and have won back-to-back meetings.
- The Salukis are 2-1 against the Cougars in Edwardsville, with the last contest at SIUE's home court taking place on Nov. 8, 2019, a game the Salukis won by a final score of 103-67.
- Last season, SIU defeated SIUE, 77-53, on Dec. 6, 2023, in Carbondale.Â
