DENTON, Texas - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (2-5) took the loss on Saturday at North Texas, falling by a final score of 87-54.
Southern Illinois shot 40% from the field, 35% from deep, and 63% at the free throw line in the loss. On the other side, North Texas shot an efficient 56% from the field to secure the victory.
SIU had 22 turnovers compared to the Mean Green's 12. Se'Quoia Allmond led the Salukis with 15 points on the day.
Both teams were tied, 16-16, at the end of the first quarter. Southern Illinois had a pair of triples in the opening 10 minutes, with both Tyranny Brown and Kayla Cooper draining shots from deep.
North Texas began to take over starting in the second quarter, where it out-scored SIU, 23-14. At the half, the Mean Green led, 39-30.
The hosts continued their strong play in the third, pacing the Salukis, 24-18. Allmond scored a team-high nine points in the frame.
The Mean Green closed the game out in the fourth, out-scoring SIU, 24-6, to win by a final score of 87-54.
Isabella Palmqvist was the only other Saluki to score in double-figures, tallying 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.
Southern, now 2-5, will head to SIUE to face the Cougars on Sunday, Dec. 15, in its next game.
