The Salukis improved to 4-0 on the season after putting up crooked numbers on the scoreboard in four different innings, including eight runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to rally back for the win.
After being outhit by the Skyhawks 11-4 in the first three innings, the Saluki bats came alive to go for 10 hits over the next six innings. Leading the charge at the plate was Jordan Bach who recorded a team-high three base hits in the game, including a bases-clearing three RBI triple in the seventh to give SIU the lead for good.
The Salukis also picked up home runs from Steven Loden, Tyler LeRoy, and Bennett Eltoft in the game. Loden put the Salukis ahead 3-0 in the opening inning with his fourth home run of the season to go along with four RBIs. The infielder has recorded a homer in each of his first four games. LeRoy belted his first homer of the year in the sixth as did Eltoft a batter later.
Trey Cutchen, Matt Schark, and Mathieu Vallee each recorded multiple hits in the game for the Salukis.
Scott Harper (1-0) was credited with the victory after pitching 1.1 innings and allowing one run while striking out one. Ben Riffe was strong out of the bullpen for the Dawgs, striking out all four batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings. Mike Hansell tossed a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to earn the save.
Jalen Fithian led the Skyhawks at the plate with a 3-for-5 day and two RBIs. Campbell Cleveland took the loss after allowing five runs in a third of an inning.
