CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois baseball will close a five-game homestand Tuesday night when the team faces UT Martin for the second time this season. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Itchy Jones Stadium. Admission is free.

- SIU is coming off a three-game sweep of Valparaiso over the weekend at home.
- Southern entered the weekend tallying 28 stolen bases in 31 attempts over 21 games. Against the Beacons, SIU was 17-for-18 on the bases with eight different players recording a steal. Trey Cutchen led the squad with four steals. Cole Christman and Hesston Gray were each 3-for-3 on steals. The Salukis are now 35-of-39 on steal attempts on the season.
- The Salukis lead the Missouri Valley Conference in runs (213) and scoring per game (8.8). Illinois State is second in the MVC with 187 runs in 22 games. Southern has scored 10 or more runs in 10 games this season, scoring 13 or more in seven games.
- The Salukis have shown patience at the plate, ranking tops in the MVC after drawing 167 walks in 24 games (6.95 walks per game). SIU has nine players that have earned 10 or more walks led by Jake Allgeyer's 25 free passes.
- SIU leads the MVC in double plays turned with 22 so far this season.
THE SERIES & MATCHUP
- Southern Illinois and UT Martin have met 47 times with SIU leading the series 36-11.
- SIU has won the last four meetings, including a road game earlier this year when the Salukis defeated UT Martin 14-11. Steven Loden, Tyler LeRoy, and Bennett Eltoft each tallied a home run in the game.
- The 2024 UT Martin baseball team features 26 returners from last year's squad while 14 newcomers will don the Orange and Blue for the first time to aid in the search of the program's first OVC Championship.
LAST TIME OUT
- Bennett Eltoft's grand slam led the Salukis past Valpo on Friday night – the third grand slam of the season for the Salukis at the time.
- Mike Hansell (3-1) put together another quality start for the Salukis in his second-straight Friday night start. The right-hander struck out nine batters and allowed only two runs in six hits over five innings of work. Hansell struck out the side in the third inning while retiring two Valpo hitters on punchouts in both the second and fourth innings.
- The Saluki bullpen would finish the final four innings of play, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out five.
- Southern Illinois outhit Valparaiso 14-5 during a 13-1 run-rule victory Saturday – hitting four home runs in the game.
- Al Holguin allowed just four hits in five innings of work on the mound. The lefty struck out five and did not allow a run to improve to 2-2 on the season.
- SIU rallied back from a three-run deficit early to earn a 9-5 victory over Valparaiso Sunday to claim the sweep of the Beacons.
- With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh, the Salukis picked up a gift from Valpo as an error extended the inning and scored two runs to put the Dawgs in front for the first time. Hesston Gray added two more insurance runs in the next at bat with a single up the middle.
- Right-hander Aidan Foeller struck out a career-high 11 batters in six innings of work on Sunday.
