
Preview | Salukis Set to Host UNI for Big Valley Matchup

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois is set to host UNI for another home Valley series at Charlotte West Stadium. The Salukis and Panthers will face off for game one on Friday evening with first pitch set for 5 PM.

The Panthers and Salukis come into the weekend as the two highest-ranked MVC teams in the NCAA RPI with UNI at no. 64 and the Salukis at no. 68. SIU sits atop of the Valley standings at 8-0 in conference play while the Panthers are 2-1 after having their series with Indiana State canceled due to weather.Â

Both teams had midweek matchups this past Tuesday on the road as SIU took a trip to UT Martin and UNI made a stop at Illinois to take on the Illini. The Dawgs took their first loss in the month of March after winning 16-straight games as UNI defeated Illinois 9-0 in five innings.

The Salukis continue to lead the MVC with a 1.76 team ERA, the 11th-best in the country. Maddia Groff enters the weekend with a 0.44 ERA, which currently marks the lowest-ERA in D1 Softball.Â

Friday's game will be Women's Appreciation Night in honor of Women's History Month in sponsorship with campus DEI. There will be free pizza and t-shirts while supplies last at the gate roughly 30 minutes before the start of the game. Sunday the Salukis will host an egg hunt along with an opportunity for children to run the bases following the game which will begin at 12 PM. The activities following the game will take place roughly around 2 PM.
