Recap | Salukis Take Series in Peoria with 8-3 Win over Braves

Peoria, Ill. - Southern Illinois took down Bradley 8-3 on Saturday afternoon for its third-straight win and second in as many days as they take the series in Peoria. Maddia Groff made her second consecutive start after a 7-inning  one-hit win in the opener on Friday and followed it up by retiring the first 15 Braves she faced.

Heading into the sixth inning today, Groff had retired 34 consecutive Bradley batters, going back to the first inning in Friday's game. The Braves got their first runner on base with an infield hit to leadoff the bottom of the sixth.

While Groff dominated in the circle, the Saluki offense wasted zero time with three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. All with two outs in the inning, the Salukis got consecutive doubles from Jackie Lis and Rylie Hamilton, followed by a two-run home run from Addi Baker to send the Dawgs up 3-0. Baker made the start at DP and notched her first home run and triple of the season, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jackie Lis stayed hot at the plate and extended her hitting streak to 12 games as she went 2-for-4 including a solo home run in the third inning.Â

The Salukis scored in five of the seven innings played as they tied their Valley-season high 12 hits. Eight of the 11 Salukis who took an at-bat recorded at least one hit. Freshman Katherine Johnson came in to pinch hit in the fourth and delivered with an RBI-single.Â

Erin Lee had her third-straight game with two hits as she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as well as her first double of the season.Â

Groff earned the win today as she improved to 18-1 on the season. The Salukis will go for the sweep tomorrow with a first pitch scheduled for 12 PM.
