BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Edouard Cereto tallied the first win of the spring season and Southern Illinois men's golf placed fourth at the Hoosier Collegiate Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.
Sophomore Edouard Cereto turned in his best performance of the spring, placing first in Hoosier Collegiate with a score of 212 (-1). After a first-round score of 73 (+2), Cereto took over in the 2nd round with a score of 68 (-3), the second-best round behind one other golfer. He then cemented himself as the champion in round three with a score of 71 (E).
The victory is the first for a Saluki individual since Frank Bellino and Justin Wingerter tied for first at the Rend Lake College Fall Invitational on October 10.
"I am so proud of Edouard and his resiliency all week," Head Coach Justin Fetcho said. "His game has been close for the past few weeks and this week he showed that he can play at a high level".
The Salukis finished fourth out of 15 teams at the Hoosier Collegiate with a score of 896 (+44), their highest finish since October 22 at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational.
"Playing on a difficult course and traversing challenging conditions made it tough, but we were able to handle every element this week," Fetcho said. "I am proud of our effort and believe that we are trending in the right direction at this time of year".
