Preview | Cross Country heads to SEMO RedHawks XC Invite Friday

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University men's and women's cross-country programs will compete at the SEMO RedHawks XC invite on Friday, August 29th, at the Osage Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The men's 5K starts at 6:15 pm and the women's 5K will begin shortly after at 6:45 pm.
Roster Makeup
The men's team consists of four returning runners, joined by three incoming freshmen:
Freshmen: Ben Chance, Will Foltz
Junior: Westen Jokerst
Senior: Josh Delgado and Vincent Van Eck
Graduate: Uriah Guthrie
The women's team consists of five returning runners, joined by four freshmen, and one graduate transfer:
Freshmen: Kyla Engel, Rae Kawalec, Riley Linville and Ally Niedfeldt
Sophomore: Brodie Denny and Hannah Meiser
Junior: Audrey Boles
Senior: Ansley Bailey and Brianna Nieset
Graduate transfer: Hannah Eastman
Hannah Eastman transferred from SEMO and will return to Cape Girardeau for her first event competing for the Salukis. She was named the 2023 OVC Female Athlete of the Year and earned First Team All OVC Honors.
On the upcoming season
In the 2024 MVC preseason coaches poll, the men's cross-country team received 72 points, putting them in sixth out of 11 teams. The women's cross-country team received 89 points, putting them in eighth place out of 12 teams.
The Salukis will participate in four meets before the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships, as they will kick off with the SEMO RedHawks XC Invite on Friday, followed by races at Bradley (Sept. 20), Missouri (Sept. 27), and Bradley (Oct. 18). The Missouri Valley Conference Championships will take place at the University of Northern Iowa on Nov. 1, followed by the NCAA Midwest Regional at Bradley on Nov. 15.
