CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf team is back on the road this week, set to compete at the Purdue Fall Invitational beginning Monday, Oct. 13, at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. The course is the site of Southern's last NCAA Regional appearance, which took place in 2024.
The Salukis will send a five-man lineup featuring Anthony De Schutter, Michael Mikus, Jaeseung Na, Blake Saffell, and Ben Keil. All five golfers played in the team's last outing, where SIU earned a fourth-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colorado, one of the strongest performances of the fall season so far.
The group has been led by standout performances from De Schutter and Mikus, who finished tied for 12th and 14th, respectively, in their last event.
Na, who transferred from Northern Colorado, made headlines after breaking SIU's 18-hole scoring record earlier this fall with a bogey-free 64. Saffell, a senior transfer from Washburn University, and Keil, a redshirt freshman making his first starts as a Saluki, round out the lineup.
Southern Illinois will compete among a strong field hosted by Purdue University and MVC foes Illinois State and Valparaiso.
Additionally, Lucas Lasley and Oliver Ulrich will compete in an individual tournament, the results of which can be found here.
Monday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, 77 degrees and winds five to 10 miles per hour. Tuesday will see partly cloudy skies with a high of 78 degrees and winds of five mph.
Play will begin at 7:45 a.m., and fans can follow along with Live Scoring.
