Pregame
Prior to the game starting, the Salukis honored their two seniors for Senior Day, as Avery Burleson and Olivia Anderson were given their flowers for the dedication they have put into the program.
First Half
The Salukis wasted little time getting on the board, as Schlicklin finished a great pass from Katamoto to put the Salukis up 1-0 just four minutes into the game. SIU and Valparaiso then entered a defensive battle, with only two shots being recorded over the next 32 minutes.
Katamoto put one on net at the 36:02 mark, but it was turned away by the Beacon keeper. Miller than made her first save of the game roughly two minutes later. In the 41st minute, Valparaiso found the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1, which is where the score stood heading into the halftime break.
Second Half
Southern came out with a flurry of shots in the first 13 minutes of the first half, but none of their five shots crossed the goal line. The Salukis continued to put pressure on the Beacons, who did not put a shot up until the 80th minute.
Both teams would trade shots for the remainder of the game, with Schlicklin coming close to finding a go-ahead goal in the final minute, but Valparaiso's goalie made one more save to secure the tied.
