While Indiana State largely controlled possession to start the game, SIU's defense was able to keep the Sycamores off the board. That is until the 19:01 mark when Indiana State opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead.
Southern finally put a shot on goal 28:14 into the match, but Indiana State's keeper made the save to preserve their 1-0 lead.
