Last Time Out
The Salukis played their penultimate game of the season on Sunday, defeating UNI 3-2. Dana Nadda potted two goals for the Salukis and Sophia Schlicklin added a goal as well. In net, Lily Murray made three saves and Aylie Haycock, Nao Katamoto, and Mckenna Garrett all added assists.
The Matchup
Southern is winless against Drake all-time, with the Bulldogs holding a 3-0-2 advantage over the Salukis. They met last season in Carbondale when Drake won 2-1. The last match in Des Moines came in 2023, which the Bulldogs also won 2-1. In 2022, the two squads tied for the last time at SIU, 2-2.
Drake is coming off a 1-0 win versus Evansville on Sunday, which brought their overall record to 8-5-4 and 5-2-1 in conference play. Their last loss was on October 23 in 1-0 fashion at Illinois State. The Bulldogs have not lost at home during their MVC schedule, with their last loss on their own turf coming on September 10 against South Dakota State.
Playoff Implications
The Salukis have already clinched their spot in the 2025 MVC Tournament, but where they finish in the standings is still wide open. SIU currently sits in fifth place, which is the lowest seed they could occupy. With the right outcomes throughout the rest of Thursday's conference games, Southern can end up anywhere from second to their current position of fifth. If the Salukis wish to host the first round on Sunday, Nov. 2, they must finish fourth or third, and if they want a first-round bye and a second-round home game, they have to climb up to second place.
