
This Week in Saluki Athletics: December 15-21

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Winter Break has arrived at Southern Illinois University, but life in Saluki Athletics marches on. Both basketball teams are in action twice this week as both also begin conference play.
Men's Basketball (6-5, 0-0)
Men's basketball's non-conference schedule came to a close this past week with a win and a loss.
The win came on Wednesday when the Salukis downed UT Martin, 83-54. Davion Sykes led the charge offensively with 17 points, while Jalen Haynes and Quel'Ron House joined Sykes in double-digit points with 12 each. Sykes had a good game across the board, also swiping three steals and grabbing five blocks.
SIU then traveled to and lost to Richmond on Saturday, 93-84 in overtime. Rolyns Aligbe put together a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Hose, Haynes, and Damien Mayo Jr. all scored 10-plus as well. House and Haynes each dished out a game-high four assists.
Missouri Valley Conference play begins now for men's basketball. On Thursday, Dec. 18, Illinois State visits Carbondale for an 8 p.m. match. Then, the Salukis visit Bradley on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m.
Women's Basketball (2-6, 0-0)
No games were played last week by women's basketball. This week, they turn their attention to Bradley for their conference-opener on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. The Salukis then return home on Saturday, Dec. 20, to host Judson at 12 p.m.
