Inside the Box Score
How it Happened
SIU led off the game with three straight walks to load the bags. After an out, Baker flied out to score a run, giving Southern an early 1-0 lead.
North Texas responded promptly in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded and nobody out, a fielder's choice plated two runs to give the Mean Green a 2-1 lead.
The Salukis scored once more in the second. As two runners stood in scoring position thanks to a North Texas error, Blomenkamp grounded out to score the game-tying run, setting the score at 2-2.
Southern retook the lead in the top of the third. After a pair of one-out singles set runners at first and second, Lee singled to bring Sarah Cook across home plate and make the score 3-2 in favor of the Salukis.
Carder added some insurance in the fourth. With Austin at third base, Carder sent a pitch over the center field wall for a two-run homer, bumping SIU's lead up to 5-2.
That lead did not last long however. In the bottom half of the fourth, with a pair of Mean Green runners in scoring position, McKenzie Newcomb gave up a three-run homer which tied the game at 5-5.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth. North Texas' leadoff hitter hit a deep fly ball to left field which bounced off the glove of Blomenkamp and over the outfield wall for a solo shot, giving the Mean Green their first lead since the first inning.
Down 6-5, the Salukis made a good effort in the seventh. With two outs, SIU had runners at first and second, but a strikeout by Austin ended the inning and game.
