
Recap | Multiple Records Fall on Day One of Men’s MVC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio – Championship season is officially underway for Southern Illinois swim and dive. On Wednesday night, the men's squad participated in day one of the Men's Missouri Valley Conference Championships. In the two events that occurred, SIU was able to capture a gold and bronze medal while breaking two school records and a conference, MVC Championships, and pool record as well.

How it Happened
Wednesday night started with the 200-yard medley relay finals. SIU's team of Alex Cimera, Tiago Faleiros, Alex Santiago, and Donat Csuvarszki beat Miami (OH) by 0.26 seconds to claim first-place with a time of 1:24.72. This time is a new school record for the Salukis, and is also a new MVC, MVC Championship, and pool record.
The only other event of the night was the 800-yard free relay. Southern's relay team, comprised of Rodrigo Ramos Chávez, Henrique Pacheco Januario, Juraj Barcot, and Willem Huggins, finished their swim in 6:28.58, setting a new school record. They also secured third-place at the championships.

Day two of the Men's MVC Championships begins tomorrow, Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. EST. Finals then start at 5 p.m. EST.
