MURRAY, Ky. - Junior Gift Uchenna broke the Southern Illinois University women's basketball single-season rebounding record in Saturday's 87-64 loss at Murray State.
Uchenna surpassed Saluki Hall of Famer Dyana Pierre's record of 341 rebounds, which was set in 2015, during the first half of Saturday's game.
Southern Illinois shot 44% from the field, 31% (4-of-13) from deep, and 80% at the free throw line in the loss. The 64 points for SIU are its most since scoring 72 in a win vs. Evansville on Feb. 7.
The Salukis out-rebounded the Racers, 37-33, and had nine blocks as opposed to the host's zero.
Murray State found success from three-point range in its win over Southern Illinois, shooting 48% (10-of-21). The Racers were also efficient at the free throw line, shooting 81% (17-of-21).
Uchenna paced the Salukis with 15 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals on Saturday. Senior Tyranny Brown was the only other player to score in double figures, finishing the game with 11 points.
Southern Illinois now sits at 4-23 overall and 2-16 in conference play heading into its final two home games of the regular season. SIU will first host Bradley on Thursday at 6 p.m., then it will honor its seniors on Senior Day on Saturday against Illinois State at 2 p.m.
