CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University softball team (29-18, 19-4) fell, 5-4, against Murray State on Sunday after a controversial call ended the game.
The loss snapped a 16 game winning streak at home for Southern Illinois, which was among the longest streaks in the nation.
Inside the Box Score
Murray State scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 advantage.
A two-run home run in the following inning by the Racers doubled their lead to 4-0. The visitors added on one more run after this to take a five-run lead into the bottom half of the second.
Southern Illinois' first run of the game came off of a solo home run by senior Addi Baker, her 11th of the season.Â
The score remained 5-1 in favor of Murray State up until the bottom of the fifth. There, the Salukis scored two runs off of a two-run double by Anna Carder that scored Amanda Knutson and Charley Pursley.
In the following inning, Baker came around and scored to make it a 5-4 game.
With two on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Mikaela Coburn hit a ground ball to short. Coburn initially reached on an error as two runs scored, including the game-winner. But after a review, the umpires determined that the out was made, ending the game.

The Salukis will conclude the regular season next weekend on the road at Evansville, with the series beginning on Friday, May 2, at 5 p.m.
