Cross Country puts together impressive showing at Oscar Moore Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's Cross Country team littered the tops of the leaderboard in the program's first home meet in six years. Five of the top nine men's finishers were represented by SIU.
Head Coach Angelina Ramos was very proud of that group, complimenting their approach.
"Our men had a 13-second differential between number one through number five-- that's incredible," Ramos said. "I was proud of their patience and how they packed up and executed the race plan of building each 2k and having a stronger second half of the race."
Here's how the Saluki men's runners fared:
The meet being in front of the home crowd made their performance that much sweeter.
"They took the win on the men's side and represented the singlet well on their home turf versus the other four teams."
Here's how the Saluki women's runners fared:
Ramos was complimentary of Denny's performance and improvement over the last year.
"Brodie Denny's improvement in the season opener stood out to me, with it being 42 seconds faster than last year's 6k season opener, and today's course is a slower course than Gans Creek, Missouri (their first 6k last year)," she said. "She was focused and competing the entire way through."
Overall, Ramos thought the group left more to be desired on this particular night.
"I wanted a little more from the women's side collectively because I see how hard they work each day at practice to grow and improve and get better together, and I know that we left time and points on the table there," she said. "I'd rather us learn from that early season than feel that way at conference or regionals."
Given that it is still early in the season, Ramos maintains an optimistic view.
"I believe in this group very much on both sides and I can't wait to keep taking every step of this journey with each of them."
