Salukis Set to Open 2026 Indoor Season at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Southern Illinois track and field program opens the 2026 indoor season today as the Salukis travel east for the Indiana Invitational, hosted at Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet marks the first competitive action of the year for SIU and provides an early measuring stick against a strong field. It is a two-day event which will take place both Friday and Saturday.
After months of fall training and winter preparation, today's meet gives the Salukis an opportunity to translate practice progress into competition. For many, the Indiana Invitational serves as a season opener and a chance to establish early marks, while others will use the meet to shake off rust and build momentum heading into the heart of the indoor schedule.
Southern Illinois is expected to see action across the sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, and distance events, as well as weight throws and shot puts. The environment at Gladstein Fieldhouse has historically produced fast times and quality marks, making it an ideal venue to open the season.
Field events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m, followed by track events in the afternoon and evening. The Salukis will look to post several personal-best performances and build a foundation that can carry into upcoming meets later this month.
