Dawgs continue march toward MVC Championships, head to Indiana for Heartland Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois Track and Field will travel to the Heartland Invitational on Friday, February 13, in Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. This meet is a crucial part of the 2026 indoor season with just a few weeks to go until the MVC indoor Championships.
Southern Illinois will face off against Ball State, Indiana, University of Nebraska, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, Butler University and a diverse field of 25 plus teams.
The Heartland Invitational is a two-day event. Day one will begin at 12:15 p.m., with the women's weight throw. Track event will begin at 2:10 p.m. Day two will see the start of the shot put at 9: 30 a.m. Track event will close the event, beginning at 11:35 with the women's one mile.

- 4x400m Relay: The men's team (Kwame Smith, Jalen Dickerson, Shane Ashton, and Weston Jokerst) leads the Missouri Valley Conference.
- Women's Relay: The 4x400m squad (Leah Thames, Trinity Cleaver, Layla Watson, and Vashti Grey) is currently ranked second in the conference.
- Top Performances: Leah Thames (200m - 24.05) and various athletes set season-best times at the PNC Invitational.
- Freshman Malik Allen leads the entire conference in the men's triple jump
