Salukis headed to SIUE for next outdoor meet

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Salukis men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Edwardsville to compete in the 2026 Cougar Classic, held April 10–11.
The meet will begin Friday with a single event—the men's and women's hammer throw—scheduled for 2:00 p.m. All remaining events will take place Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Southern Illinois has enjoyed a strong outdoor season so far, earning first-place finishes in multiple events. The Salukis currently lead in the 200m, the men's and women's 4x400m relay, and the women's 4x100m relay in the MVC conference.
Athletes to watch this weekend include Leah Thames, Shane Ashton, Christian Coleman, Dallas Hodge, and Malik Allen.
A total of 13 schools will compete in this year's Cougar Classic: Cuyahoga Community College, Evansville, Harris-Stowe State, Judson, Lincoln (Mo.), Lindenwood, Maryville, Mineral Area College, Missouri Baptist, Missouri–St. Louis, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, and Southern Indiana.
There will be no admission charge for Friday's lone event. Tickets for Saturday can be purchased at the gate for $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 17 and under. Children under three will be admitted free of charge.
Parking at Ralph Korte Stadium will be free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Saturday's field events will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men's long jump, followed by the women's long jump, discus, and pole vault. Running events will start at 12:00 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase, followed by the 4x100m relay. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relay at approximately 5:45 p.m. All running events will begin with the women's races, followed by the men's.
