CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer opened its season with a 1-0 loss at Southeast Missouri Thursday night in Cape Girardeau.
The first half was all Redhawks, and they capitalized on their sixth shot as Hayley Hogenmiller put the ball on net at the 43:28 mark.
The Salukis did not pressure the net early, putting zero shots on goal through the first 45.
Southern revved up its offensive play as SEMO clung to a narrow 1-0 lead, but could not tie the affair.
Maya Dixon, Nao Katamoto and Dior Knorr all put shots on goal for the Dawgs.
Senior goalkeeper Reagan Miller had three saves.

SIU plays its first home regular-season match at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex in Carbondale Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
