Salukis Open Home Slate against Western Illinois, Kickoff Moved to 10 a.m.

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer hosts Western Illinois for its first home match of the 2026 season Sunday. Kickoff has been moved up to 10 a.m. because of expected temperatures in the upper 90s Sunday afternoon.

Southern Illinois women's soccer opened its season with a 1-0 loss at Southeast Missouri Thursday night in Cape Girardeau. Maya Dixon, Nao Katamoto and Dior Knorr all put shots on goal for the Dawgs, while senior goalkeeper Reagan Miller had three saves.
Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois (59) was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference's women's soccer preseason poll, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Junior Guliana Balistreri was named to The Valley's preseason team. Drake (96, seven first-place votes), Illinois State (83, two first-place votes), UIC (77) and Murray State (69) led the poll, while Indiana State (58) followed Southern in sixth.
Salukis on the Big Stage
Senior midfielder Dana Nadda attended the Egyptian National Team camp in the spring as part of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, sophomore Michelle Betancourt was selected to the U.S. women's national futsal team, and attended camp in July.
The Matchup
Sunday's matchup will be the first between the Salukis and Leathernecks.
Western Illinois lost its season opener 3-0 to Indiana State on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Lillian Johns had nine saves.
