Saluki Soccer Travels to UT Martin Sunday Seeking Record Fifth Straight Win

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer will look to establish a program record with its fifth consecutive victory Sunday when the Salukis visit UT Martin. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin, Tenn.
Southern enters the match at 5-2 following Thursday's 1-0 victory over SIUE. The Salukis have recorded four consecutive shutouts and outscored opponents 12-0 during that stretch.

Michelle Betancourt scored her first goal of the season in the 55th minute Thursday, finishing a combination assisted by Kayla Grain and Victoria Hassan to lift Southern past SIUE.
Reagan Miller played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves, all in the second half. Betancourt and Grain each recorded two shots as Southern improved to 4-0 at home and matched its longest winning streak in program history.
Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois was selected fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll with 59 points. Junior Guliana Balistreri earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team.
Brooke Gosse received MVC Player of the Week recognition Aug. 18 after scoring twice against Western Illinois. Penny Warner also earned the weekly award following her hat trick in Southern's program-record 8-0 victory over Alabama A&M.
The Matchup
UT Martin enters Sunday at 1-3-5 after a 1-0 setback at Austin Peay on Thursday. Goalkeeper Mac Titus made five saves, while the Skyhawks finished with seven shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.
Unni Wolf and Allie Carroll lead the Skyhawks with two goals apiece. Southern has scored 17 goals and allowed four through seven matches, with all five victories coming by shutout.
Sunday marks the fourth meeting between the programs. UT Martin leads the series 1-0-2, with the two most recent matches ending in scoreless draws in 2024 and 2025. Southern will be seeking its first victory in the series.
