Notre Dame’s Joe Piane Meet
Saluki Men Carry Momentum Into Joe Piane Invitational
09/30/2026 | 8:35:00 | Cross Country
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois men's cross country travels to Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 2, for the Joe Piane Invitational, looking to build on one of its strongest performances of the young season.
The Salukis will compete in the men's Gold Division 8K at 12:40 p.m. ET at Burke Golf Course.
Southern Illinois will bring eight runners to Notre Dame:
• Maxwell Haas
The same group gives SIU another opportunity to continue developing the pack-running approach that played a major role in its win at the SEMO OVC Preview. At Cape Girardeau, the Salukis claimed the team title with 34 points and placed five runners inside the top 14.
That performance showed a more confident and disciplined Southern Illinois group, with the returners working together at the front and the freshmen learning to handle the full 8K distance as a pack.
The Joe Piane Invitational now gives the Salukis a chance to test that progress against a deeper field and continue building toward the heart of the 2026 season.
