Salukis Return to Action Sunday at Chicago State

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer returns to action Sunday when the Salukis travel to Chicago State.
SIU enters the match following a 1-0 victory over Lindenwood on Thursday night, with Nao Katamoto scoring the game-winning goal in the 71st minute. The win gives Southern Illinois another strong result heading into Sunday's matchup as the season continues.
The Salukis and Cougars are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Chicago.

Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois (59 points) was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference women's soccer preseason poll. Junior Guliana Balistreri was named to the Valley's preseason team. Drake (96, seven first-place votes), Illinois State (83, two first-place votes), UIC (77) and Murray State (69) led the poll, while Indiana State (58) finished sixth.
Midfielder Brooke Goose was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Aug. 18 after scoring two goals against Western Illinois as part of SIU's then-school-record five goals.
Forward Penny Warner earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors following her three-goal performance in SIU's 8-0 victory, which set a new school record for goals in a single game.
Salukis on the Big Stage
Senior midfielder Dana Nadda attended the Egyptian national team camp in the spring as part of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, sophomore Michelle Betancourt was selected to the U.S. women's national futsal team and attended camp in July.
The Matchup
Chicago State enters Sunday's matchup at 0-4-0 after falling to Indiana State 5-1 in its most recent match. The Cougars have scored two goals through four games this season.
