Salukis Earn 2-0 Road Win at Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Southern Illinois women's soccer team earned a 2-0 road victory over Chicago State Cougars, putting together another dominant second-half performance to secure the win.
The first half was tightly contested, with both teams creating several opportunities. The Cougars applied strong pressure during the opening 45 minutes, while the Salukis looked for chances at the other end. Intensity remained high, and Chicago State received a yellow card. Neither team found the back of the net, sending the match into halftime tied 0-0.
As they have shown in recent matches, the Salukis came out with renewed energy in the second half and quickly took control.
SIU broke through in the 56th minute when Maya Dixon found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Dixon finished the chance with a strong move, with Nao Katamoto and Penny Warner helping create the opportunity. The Salukis continued to control the pace and create chances as the second half progressed.
Southern extended the lead in the 80th minute when Victoria Hassan made it 2-0. Hassan and Dixon displayed excellent chemistry on the play, connecting to create the second goal.
The Salukis stayed focused in the closing minutes to secure the shutout and a 2-0 road victory.

The Salukis return home Thursday to take on SIUE at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
