Hall of Fame Day Moved to Basketball Season, Nominations Available On-line
Aug. 8, 2001
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University-Carbondale athletic department has restructured its annual Hall of Fame proceedings, Athletic Director Paul Kowalczyk said Wednesday.
The date will move from its traditional fall time slot to the winter and take place in conjunction with a men's basketball home game. In addition, fans will be able to nominate former SIUC athletes using an on-line form on the department's website.
"We're evaluating everything we do, looking for ways to improve all aspects of our business," Kowalczyk said. "Moving the Hall of Fame weekend to basketball season alleviates the weather factor associated with football and also brings more intimacy to the proceedings."
Kowalczyk said the criteria for nominating former athletes and coaches is being fine-tuned, but encouraged fans to submit worthy candidates who have graduated more than five years ago.
