Adam Core served as an assistant coach at Southern Illinois for the 2019 season. Core joined the staff after a playing and coaching career at Harris-Stowe State in St. Louis.Â
In Core's season in Carbondale, SIU set a school record and ranked fifth in the nation with 144 stolen bases, and the Salukis ranked among the national leaders in offensive efficiency (runs per hit). Two of Core's hitters earned Player of the Week honors from the Missouri Valley Conference: Will LaRue and Aiden McMahan. In addition, Alex Lyon was named an All-MVC selection and Ian Walters was named to the MVC's All-Tournament team.Â
Core assisted with the hitting program and served as the primary coach for the catchers. He was also the first-base coach for the Salukis.Â
A Nashville, Tennessee, native, Core played collegiately at Dyersburg State and Harris-Stowe University, and he was a team captain and Academic All-Conference selection at Harris-Stowe. He graduated magna cum laude from Harris-Stowe with a degree in business administration in 2017.Â
Core was as a student manager at Alabama under head coach Mitch Gaspard. He also coached at the prep level with the Legends Baseball Club and Knights Baseball Organization, both based out of Tennessee. Core was a head coach for the Knights, on the of the nation's premier travel baseball organizations. He came to SIU from Lincoln Memorial University, where he was a graduate assistant in Fall 2018.Â
