Southern Illinois men's basketball welcomed Adam Blaylock to its coaching staff Wednesday, September 23. He is a crucial part of SIU's recruiting, player development, and scout preparation.
Prior to SIU, Blaylock spent eight years at Purdue Fort Wayne. He was part of the 2022 Horizon League championship team, six winning seasons (including five consecutive) and the development of NBA point guard John Konchar.
While at Fort Wayne, Blaylock served as the program's recruiting coordinator and assisted with all areas of NIL initiatives and community development. He oversaw summer camps and was the primary contact for community service efforts. He worked primarily with the frontcourt, helping develop professional players Dylan Carl, Eric Mulder, Deangelo Elisee and Darius Duffy. Blaylock also served as the primary schedule contact and liaison with Purdue Fort Wayne compliance.
Before Purdue Fort Wayne, Blaylock spent 2015-18 as the top assistant at junior college Panola College in Carthage, Texas. He helped the Ponies to 70 wins, the school's winningest season, its first NJCAA national tournament win since 1968 and worked under head coach Grant McMillan. In 2017-18, Panola went 20-12 and had six student-athletes sign with Division I schools. The Ponies sent 17 players to Division I programs during Blaylock's three seasons. He was the lead recruiter of LSU signee and eventual NBA player Marlon Taylor.
In the spring of 2017, CoachStat.net named Blaylock one of the top 10 junior college coaches in the nation.
Prior to Panola, Blaylock was the top assistant at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. He began coaching there in January 2011. At Northeast, he oversaw recruiting, strength and conditioning, player development, academics and overall basketball operations. Blaylock helped Northeast win 97 games and coached two nationally ranked teams. While there, he earned his master's degree in organizational management in December 2013. His former player Chima Moneke debuted with the Sacramento Kings last season, becoming Blaylock's third NBA player.
Blaylock was a student assistant at Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, in fall 2010. He received his bachelor's degree in social science education from Peru State.
The Norfolk, Nebraska, native began his playing career at Northeast Community College and completed his final two years at Peru State, where he was named the 2009-10 MCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
