Carbondale native Rob Dosier is in his second season as a graduate assistant with the Saluki Men's Basketball program. In addition to his playing experience, Dosier has player development experience at both the prep and professional levels.
Dosier's player development background paid immediate dividends at SIU. Freshman Marcus Domask was named the league's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year, along with second-team All-Conference. He was named a Freshman All-American and was one of only four freshmen in the nation to average 13.5 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
He also helped another freshman, Lance Jones, develop into one of the conference's best point guards. Jones, who had never played point guard before, was thrust into the role just six games into his freshman season after starter Aaron Cook suffered a broken hand. By the end of the season, Jones averaged 18 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game over the season's final six games.
Barret Benson also flourished with Dosier. SIU's starting center came to SIU from Northwestern, where he averaged 2 points and 3 rebounds per game. At SIU, He averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds while anchoring SIU's MVC-leading scoring defense.
Defensively, the Salukis ranked in the top-15 nationally in 2019-20, Dosier's first season on staff. The Salukis allowed just 62.2 points per game and led the MVC in scoring defense for the first time since 2007. SIU's resurgant defense led the program's turnaround. The Salukis outperformed the preseason expectations of ESPN's BPI, KenPom, Sagarin, Norlander, and Sports Illustrated. SIU returned only three players from the previous year's team, but the team won 10 MVC games anyway, the most ever by a team that had been picked last in the league's preseason poll. The Salukis ran off 10-straight home wins and seven-straight MVC wins during the season, both of which were the longest for the program since 2007.
A graduate of nearby Marion High School, Dosier had an outstanding playing career. At Marion High School, he guided his team to its first regional championship in 27 years. After playing at SEMO as a freshman, Quincy won a school-record 25 games in his sophomore year, which included a trip to the round of 32 in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
In addition to playing experience, Dosier has experience with player development. He was the head coach for the 15U and 16U Illinois Bears in 2016 and 2017, respectively. He also served as assistant coach for the Bears 17U team. He also completed two summers working alongside NBA skills coach Drew Hanlen in Los Angeles, working with NBA players including Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Bradley Beal, Meyers Leonard, and more.
Dosier graduated from Quincy with a bachelor's degree in sports management in May 2019.
