Lea Hartigan enters her first season as assistant coach with the SIU women’s volleyball program.
Hartigan comes to Carbondale by way of Iowa Lakes Community College, where she served as the head coach for the 2016 season. The Lakers had two student-athletes earn all-conference honors and posted a team grade point average of 3.4.
Prior to becoming the head coach at ILCC, Hartigan spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Upper Iowa University, a NCAA Division II institution. As the director of recruiting, she was instrumental in helping the Peacocks land the 2015 Gatorade Iowa Player of the Year, Carlee Ketchum.
The Treynor, Iowa native came to Upper Iowa University by way of Winona State University, where she was a graduate assistant coach for two seasons. The Warriors went 20-11 during Hartigan’s first season on staff, winning a school-record 15-straight matches and posting the program’s first 20-win season since 1993.
A 2011 graduate of Wayne State College, Hartigan was a three-year starter for the Wildcats and earned All-NSIC Honorable Mention honors during her junior season. Wayne State was ranked No. 1 in the nation during her senior season, and the Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of her four seasons. In all, Wayne State compiled a 102-34 record during Hartigan’s four seasons.
Hartigan received her B.S. in Sport Management from Wayne State and earned her master’s in Sport Management from Winona State in 2014.
