Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-10, 3-6 MVC) will be on the road for key MVC matches with SMS (13-4, 7-2 MVC) and Wichita State (5-11, 1-8 MVC) on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20 respectively.
"It's another opportunity to get closer to the tournament. SMS and Wichita State are very good teams and we expect tough back to back tough matches," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach.
"We have to play smart against the block, play good defense and have all of our hitters play well so we can be balanced if we want to win those matches, especially against SMS. All teams play better at home so we can't expect to beat Wichita State the way we won here in Carbondale and they've used multiple offenses so we have to be ready."
The Salukis have won four out of their last five matches including victories over Murray State, Drake and Western Illinois and Evansville last week. SIU dropped a 3-1 match to Creighton in the middle of the five match run and sits in seventh place in the MVC standings.
The Salukis will face Missouri on Monday, October 22 in Columbia, Missouri to end the road trip.
