Salukis Beat Murray State 3-1 In Non-Conference Match

Murray, Ky. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (5-9, 1-5 MVC) beat Murray State (1-14, 0-5 OVC) 3-1 in a non-conference match in Murray, Kentucky on Tuesday night. The Salukis lost game one before winning three straight games to win the match 27-30, 30-27, 30-21, 30-24 and improve to 5-9 overall.
"It's good to get a win on the road. Lindsey Schultz put together a phenomenal blocking night," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach. "We've been needing a good hitting performance outside of Kristie Kemner and Tara Cains and Kelly Harman stepped up for us tonight with 17 kills."
The Salukis received four double-double performances and two career-highs in the victory.
Megan Baumstark had another strong effort with 52 assists, 12 digs, 5 kills, 4 block assists and 2 solo blocks. Kristie Kemner added 12 kills, 13 digs and 2 block assists. Tara Cains chipped in with 12 kills, 10 digs and 4 block assists and Jenny Noel had 10 kills, 16 digs, 3 block assists ad a solo block. Lindsey Schultz added 9 kills and a career-high 9 block assists and 4 solo blocks in the match. Kelly Harman hit .375 (17 kills, 5 errors, 32 attempts) to lead the SIU hitting attack and had 4 digs, 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists in addition to a career-high 17 kills.
The Salukis hit .274 to the Racers .120 and had a season-high19 blocks to MSU's 2.
SIU will host Drake and Creighton on October 5 & 6 respectively in MVC play in Davies Gym. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
