Wichita, Kan. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-12, 3-8 MVC) hit just .074 and was swept 33-31, 30-28, 30-25 by Wichita State (7-11, 3-8 MVC) in MVC play Saturday, October 20 on the road.
"We didn't hit the ball well tonight and Wichita State just wouldn't lose. They were aggressive and we had too many hitting errors," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach.
"You can't expect a win on the road in this conference just because someone doesn't gave a great record or you beat them earlier. Records don't mean anything on the road."
The Salukis were led by Kristie Kemner's double-double performance of 14 kills and 11 digs. Megan Baumstark passed out 26 assists with 8 digs. Jenny Noel hit .333 (5 kills, no errors, 15 attempts) with an error.
Lindsey Schultz, the leading hitter in the MVC, had just four kills in 10 attempts with 2 errors for a .200 hitting performance. Tara Cains, the ninth-ranked hitter in MVC play, had 2 kills and hit -.200 (2 kills, 5 errors, 15 attempts) and Kelly Harman added 9 kills but hit .000 (9 kills, 9 errors, 25 attempts). Lisa Vodin added 8 digs.
The Shockers hit .172 to SIU's 074. WSU also had 13 aces to five for the Salukis.
The Salukis will wrap up their road trip against Missouri in Columbia, Mo. on Monday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
