Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (8-15, 3-10 MVC) lost its fifth straight match when Indiana State (13-10, 7-5 MVC) swept the Salukis 30-26, 30-27, 30-22 on Saturday at Davies Gym.
"We committed too many errors to win the match. The kids know where we stand and we have to win the rest of our matches to have a chance to get in the tournament," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach.
"We have to execute and we didn't do that tonight. Not enough execution to win."
SIU was led by Megan Baumstark's 43 assists and 11 digs. Kristie Kemner added 16 kills and 8 digs and Jenny Noel hit .400 (7 kills, 1 error, 15 attempts) with 14 digs. Lindsey Schultz hit .333 (5 kills, 1 error, 12 attempts) to continue her strong MVC hitting this season.
The Salukis out blocked Indiana State 12 to two but were out hit .313 to .211 in the match. ISU also had 10 aces to four for SIU.
The Salukis will be on the road against Creighton (Nov. 2) and Drake (Nov. 3) next weekend.
