Zeibert named MVC Scholar Athlete

CARBONDALE - Southern Illinois University cross country runner Joe Zeibert has been named to the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete team.
Zeibert, a senior from Lombard, Ill., placed 16th at the MVC Championships and carries a 3.4 grade-point-average on a 4.0 scale. Zeibert is majoring in Geography at SIU.
Zeibert clocked in at 25 minutes, 38 seconds in the men's 8k race, the second-best time for SIU, helping the Salukis place 5th in the team standings.
The Scholar-Athlete team is a unique Verizon/CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic all-America voting. Those eligible must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institutions, and they must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. The top-10 finishers at the league championships who meet the criteria earn first-team honors.
