Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale's (6-9, 2-5 MVC) swept Drake 30-16, 30-27, 30-19 in Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday, October 5.
"I'm happy to get a win and I'll take it but I'm looking for us to be more consistent. It's nice to play at home but we have to learn to win on our own and not always count on the crowd to help us," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach.
"It's good to get a second straight win and get some momentum with Creighton coming in on Saturday. The crowd was great tonight."
The Salukis scored 18 points during Megan Baumstark's serve on the way to a 30-16 win in game one over the Bulldogs (3-10, 0-6 MVC). Baumstark had 5 aces on the night.
In game two SIU pulled away from a 25-25 tie and won 30-27 on an ace by Kristie Kemner, who served up the last three points.
Tara Cains serve gave the Salukis a 5-0 lead to open game three and Kemner served up six straight points to give SIU a 27-17 lead on their way to a 30-19 win.
Kemner led SIU with 14 kills, 13 digs and a .542 (14 kills, 1 error, 24 attempts) hitting performance. Kelly Harman had 10 kills and hit .412 (10 kills, 3 errors, 17 attempts). Cains added 9 kills, 9 digs and 4 block assists while hitting .467 (9 kills, 2 errors, 15 attempts). Baumstark added 34 assists, 4 kills and 4 digs to her strong serving night. Lindsey Schultz continued her hot hitting with a .400 showing (7 kills, 1 error, 15 attempts).
SIU hit .380 to Drake's .146 and had 46 digs to the Bulldogs 28.
The Salukis will look for their second straight MVC win when they host Creighton on Saturday, October 6 in Davies Gym at 7 p.m.
