Volleyball Sweeps Western Illinois On The Road

Macomb, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (7-10, 2-6 MVC) swept Western Illinois (2-10, 2-2 Mid-Continent) on the road 30-23, 30-19, 30-20 on Tuesday, October 9.
"A win on the road is something we haven't been doing much of lately and I'm happy to get this one," stated Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach. "We're getting some consistent play from Tara Cains and we are getting better as a team. Now we have to get ready for Evansville."
Cains led SIU with 13 kills and 11 digs while hitting a team-high .500 (13 kills, 3 errors, 20 attempts). Kristie Kemner added 10 kills and 4 digs. Megan Baumstark passed out 34 assists and eight digs. Jenny Noel hit .385 (6 kills, 1 error, 13 attempts) with 9 digs, a solo block and 4 block assists. Lindsey Schultz added 8 kills and Kelly Harman chipped in 5 kills.
SIU hit .298 for the match to .131 for Western Illinois. The Salukis had 7 blocks to just 2 for the Westerwinds.
The Salukis return home to host Evansville in MVC play on Saturday, October 13 at Davies Gym at 7 p.m.
