Carbondale, Ill. - The Salukis will make their last road trip of the season when they play at the Evansville Tournament on November 9-10 in Evansville, Indiana.
Southern Illinois University (9-16, 4-11 MVC) will play Evansville (5-21, 2-13 MVC) in an MVC match on Friday at 7 p.m. at the tournament.
"Evansville will be tough, they're better than the team we played in Carbondale and swept earlier this season. We have a good rivalry, we're evenly matched and we're both not going to the tournament," said Sonya Locke, Saluki head coach.
On Saturday, SIU will face Morehead State (Ky.) University (18-9, 8-2 OVC) at 11:00 a.m. and Samford (Ala.) University (12-16, 6-4 Atlantic Sun) at 4:30 p.m.
"We're not going to the MVC Tournament and I'm disappointed that goal has slipped away but we're going to try to win this tournament. We still have something to accomplish," Locke added.
"We have seniors that want to go out on a high note and we can still win a tournament down the stretch. I want our seniors to have a positive end to their careers."
SIU is currently in seventh place but can not make the six-team 2001 MVC Tournament field. Despite not reaching the tournament the Salukis still have an MVC goal.
"Right now we're trying to finish better than the MVC preseason prediction that we would finish ninth and so far we're ahead of that. According to some we are overachieving by being in seventh but I think we can be better. We have to play for pride, a better season than last year and because we're Salukis."
