Carbondale, Ill. - For the first time in her career, junior guard Molly McDowell was named State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.
McDowell scored 52 points last week, which included a 29-point effort against Tennessee Tech. She shot 18-of-31 (.580) from the field including a sizzling 7-of-11 (.636) three-pointers. Additionally, she knocked down 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line, pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out nine assists and gathered four steals.
Averaging a team leading 19.8 points per game this season, McDowell is the first SIU player to garner the weekly honor since teammate Danielle Lawary did it on Dec. 27, 2000.
